Travel Details ARRIVING AT THE TRIMARAN Boarding is at noon on first day (Sunday) of the week from the dock in Road Town, Tortola, BVIs. Most travel will require you to arrive the day before and we can help you find accommodations if necessary. The trimaran comes back in to dock the following Saturday in time for afternoon flights.
GETTING TO THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS The most popular route to the British Virgin Islands is via San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU). Direct flights to San Juan are available from many U.S. cities. Then continue on with over 15 flights per day leaving from San Juan for a 30 minute hop to Tortola's Beef Island Airport (EIS). You can also fly to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands (STT) and take the inter-island ferry to Tortola. Helpful Info Entry Requirements The United States require their citizens to carry a valid passport when re-entering the USA and so a Passport is now the standard entry requirement for everybody entering the British Virgin Islands.
Currency The U.S. dollar is the monetary currency so there is no need to change money. Major credit cards are accepted in most places, including aboard your yacht.
Electrical The electrical current is standard 110 volt / 60 cycles, the same as in the U.S.
PACKING FOR THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS Be sure to pack suncreen, batteries, film and personal items as they are expensive in the islands. Be sure to bring your prescription medication if necessary. The dress code is casual in the islands, swimming suit coverups are required in businesses. Shoes while on the yacht should be white non-marking soles and flipflops are great for the beaches. Towels & bedding are provided and if you choose to bring a beach towel we suggest something lightweight.
CELL PHONE COVERAGE If you are wondering if your cell phone will work in the BVIs its best to call your phone company and check with them for service in this area. We do have emergency numbers that you can leave with work, family & friends while you are on your vacation. The British Virgin Islands is known as "natures little secret". Its natural beauty is still untouched by the inroads of mass tourism. Several of the 36 islands that comprise the BVIs are still uninhabited and maintain pristine beaches. The BVI is one of the premier locations in the world for sailing, with the constant trade winds, crystal clear waters and many small islands and bays to visit. Snorkeling unbelievable formations and sea life,diving ancients wrecks, island exploring, nightlife and sailing are just a few of the outstanding activities to do while visiting the islands.
Location Comprised of 36 islands in the Caribbean (16 of which are inhabited); about 80 kilometers/ 60 miles east of Puerto Rico, north of the Leeward Islands, and adjacent to the U.S. Virgin Islands; principal islands are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
Area 153 square kilo meters (59 square miles); Tortola, 54 square kilo meters (21 square miles); Anegada, 39 square kilo meters (15 square miles); Virgin Gorda, 21 square kilo meters (8 square miles).
Topography Largely rolling hills and beaches; Tortola rises to 1,780 feet at Mount Sage, the highest point in all the Virgin Islands; Anegada is very flat, the entire islands being no more than a few feet above sea level.
Climate Sub-tropical; summer, 26°C - 31°C (79°F - 89°F); Winter, 22°C - 28°C (72°F - 82°F); rainfall monthly average of 100 mm.
